Iranian Women Association decries mistreatment in Iran

Association of Iranian Women Journalists in a statement on Saturday protested against the recent mistreatment of Iranian print media, IRNA reported.

The association also called on the Iranian press community to announce their stances vis-a-vis different issues.

Addressing those who adopted a hostile attitude toward the independent print media, the statement noted that factional interests should be avoided for the sake of national interests.

It asked heads of three branches of power to reconsider those parts of the constitution that deal with media activities.

“If the print media do not function properly, the society’s functioning will be disrupted,“ it added.

The association wondered why people should witness unpleasant and unacceptable behavior while the society is facing economic and political pressures.
