Slogans reminded Khatami of his shameful presidency and the popular exasperation of the Islamic republic regime.

Most students and residents had boycotted the official calls and 'requests' to greet Khatami but the governmental TV showed footages of scenes of 'professional' supporters in order to offer a 'respectable' farewell to the man symbolizing the sham 'reforms from within'.

According to many Bojnoordis, most of the crowd brought to greet Khatami were known Afghan refugees living in the region. Promises, such as, extension of their legal stay and various type of financial aid were made by local clerics and governmental welfare offices.

Khatami's eight years of presidency will end in June.
