Iranians abroad have earned a trillion dollars

Iranians living in the United States, in Europe in the Gulf states and elsewhere have accumulated more than a trillion dollars in earnings, according to Iran's intelligence minister, Hojatolislam Ali Younesi. "The three million or so Iranians who live in the United States, together with Americans of Iranian origin, have more than 500 million dollars in assets," Younesi said Tuesday in a speech to the Islamic Republic's Chambres of Commerce. In the tiny Gulf emirate of Dubai alone, some 40,000 Iranian owned companies, have invested in total more than 200 billion dollars. A recent study by the newsmagazine, The Economist, listed two Iranian expatriates among Britian's ten richest people. Latest estimates show that Iranian investments in France amount to 80 billion dollars, a third of the sum invested by Iranians in Canada. In Germany, Iranian expatriates make up the richest immigrant community, with some of its members major shareholders in banks and other financial institutions. In Italy, the Iranian community, which numbers some 10,000 people, has accumulated some five billion dollars in assets.
