Iran's New President Wants to Meet Team of Jews in Los Angeles

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad is interested in meeting a delegation from the Iranian Jews living in Los Angeles in the United States of America, according to Israeli diplomatic sources. According to a report carried by the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, the Israeli consul-general in the city of Los Angeles Eyahoud Danookh had conveyed a secret message to this effect to the Israeli ministry of foreign affairs.

Officials at the Israeli foreign ministry were surprised by the desire expressed by the Iranian president to meet a delegation of Iranian Jews, since Ahmedinejad had made radical statements against the Jews in the past.

The report said the Iranian ambassador to UN approached two leaders in the Iranian Jewish community in the US and invited them to meet Ahmedinejad.

Sources at the foreign ministry in Israel said Ahmedinejad wanted to meet representatives of the Iranian Jewish community in the US to improve his image in the West.
