Rafsanjani's trip to Saudi Arabia and the regime mounting fear regarding a showdown with the West

Iran Press News: Translation by Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzzi
The regime-run site, AFTAB belonging to one of Hashemi Rafsanjani's sons reports: "During the days that Ahmadinejad, accompanied by his Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of the Security Assembly of the regime, traveled to New York, Hashemi Rafsanji, accompanied by two previous Ministers of Foreign Affairs traveled to Saudi Arabia. Ministers Ali-Akbar Velayati and Kamal Kharrazi presence on this trip demonstrates a greater sense of diplomatic instability and concern. Choosing Saudi Arabia for diplomatic discussions during the same period that the regime's nuclear dossier is at it's most critical stage in the last two years, exposes the deep anguish being sensed by former policy-makers of the regime vis a vis the present state of affairs. It has come to the point where, if Ahmadinejad, goes to New York with Larijani as his support system, Rafsanjani, enlists the two ex-Foreign Ministers to travel to one of the most trusted ally countries of the United States. The proximity of the King of Saudi Arabia to the United States and of course the political trust that exists between the officeholders of the regime and that of Saudi authoritie,s has created the grounds for the King of Saudi Arabia to consistently play the role of messenger between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the U.S. administration."
