UK Govt Denies Rift With Washington Over Approach to Iran

The U.K. government Monday insisted diplomacy was the best way to resolve the standoff over Iran 's nuclear program, and rejected talk of tension with the U.S. As Foreign Secretary Jack Straw prepared to meet in Washington with Condoleezza Rice, ... officials denied a rift over how to tackle the issue. ...

Prime Minister Tony Blair's official spokesman said Monday that Straw and Rice would discuss a broad range of issues, including the Jan. 30 elections in Iraq, the Israel-Palestinian peace process, and the U.K.'s G-8 goals of tackling global warming and easing poverty in Africa.

Iran wouldn't dominate the talks, he said.

"The characterization of this meeting as being about Iran and Iran alone is wrong. He is not going to Washington to deliver a specific message about Iran ," said the spokesman. more
