Family visits jailed Iranian Ganji in hospital

A member of the committee following up the condition of Akbar Ganji said Ganji’s family visited him at Milad Hospital.

Issa Saharkhiz also told IRNA: “After the original ban was lifted, Ganji’s family managed to visit him at the hospital at 22:30 on Monday.“In a recent meeting of the Society in Defense of Press Rights, a committee was formed for following up Ganji’s conditions. The committee comprises Saeed Hajjaraian, Reza Tehrani and Saharkhiz.

Saharkhiz noted that on Sunday night Ganji was in critical condition and he was transferred to Milad Hospital from Evin Prison. “When Ganji’s family visited him, he was being fed intravenously,“ he said.

Ganji has been hospitalized for an operation on his right knee.

He referred to the problems created for Ganji after he went on hunger strike and the fact that he has been in jail for five years.Let’s hope he will not return to prison,“ he noted. READ MORE

Meanwhile, Judiciary Spokesman Jamal Karimi-Rad said judicial officials should decide whether Ganji should return to prison or not after surgery.

Asked whether Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi could grant Ganji clemency, he said, In the period that Ganji has been in prison, he has not regretted his acts and we have witnessed his protests about continuing the jail term. This dismisses the possibility of him being granted clemency.“ ...
