During the Friday prayers of July 22nd in Tehran, Hashemi Rafsanjani, the defeated Mullah candidate and twice president of Iran, continued his rant against the Supreme Leader, Khamnei. He said: "Monopolizing is the real reason for acrimony. These days, too many `intriguist elements' have presented themselves in this sphere; maintaining `the flow' is of utmost importance and various power structures need to consider themselves a unit of a larger contingent which at all times must avoid falling into injurious divisions." Once again, Rafsanjani broached the subject of his loss of power and warned Khamnei: "If we fall victim to exclusion, expulsion and accusations and spin our wheels dealing with disorder, we will not only not progress but we will surely regress."

Rafsanjani also talked about the issues surrounding the regime's nuclear pursuits, saying: "I hope that along with the appropriate and logical policies we can avoid forgoing our rights to nuclear capability, otherwise it would be a stain on our history if we lose that opportunity based on existing coercion and intimidation. [Having nuclear capability] will be high honor for the regime."
