U.S. Court Sentences Iranian For Arms Exports

A U.S. court has sentenced an Iranian national to nearly five years in prison for trying to export parts for F-4 and F-14 jet fighters.

The U.S. attorney's office in the eastern city of Baltimore made the announcement on 6 July. Abbas Tavakolian, 58, pleaded guilty to attempting to export munitions from the United States to Iran. Authorities say that Tavakolian, of Tehran, worked with undercover agents to acquire aircraft components for use by the Iranian military. The embargoed or prohibited items were to have cost about $380,000.
