Iran's Favorite Iraqi Politican

Ilan Berman, The American Foreign Policy Council:
The Islamic Republic of Iran appears to be changing horses in the race for political primacy now underway in neighboring Iraq. The Iranian regime is said to have extended conditional support to Ahmad Chalabi, Iraq’s current deputy prime minister (and the Bush administration’s one-time favorite Iraqi exile), ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in the former Ba’athist state. Chalabi has announced plans to run against prominent Iraqi politicians such as current premier Ibrahim al-Jaafari and former prime minister Iyad Allawi for Iraq’s top political post should his political faction secure enough parliamentary votes in the December polls.
