A human rights activist imprisoned in Mahabad, Province of Kurdistan

Iran Press News: Translation by Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzzi.
According to reports from the Human Rights Organization of Kurdistan, on Thursday, January 5th, Qafoor Mohammadi, a member of said organizations' branch in Mahabad was arrested and taken to prison; he was charged and immediately sentenced for being in contact with a political organization which the regime has labeled illegal.

Mohammadi himself said: "A year ago members of the security forces with a warrant in hand broke into to my house and tossed the place; since then they have done everything they could to prosecute me."

Later the members of the security forces who had tapped Mohammadi's phone used an innocent phone call, made by Mohammadi's son who was calling a Kurdish radio station to request his favorite song, as "documentation" against him to implicate him. As a result Mohammadi has now been sentenced to several months in prison.
