The secretary general of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, said on Friday that Tehran would not lose its resolve over its nuclear ambitions because of increased Western threats.

Iran will stand firm in its path to obtain nuclear technology since it is pursuing its legitimate rights, Larijani said in a meeting with university staff affiliated with the Bassij force. His remarks were carried by the official state news agency.

[The West] has decided to raise pressures to set us back. Such a retreat would be a strategic one and bring about further retreats in other domains, he said.

The West must understand that if it bullies us through the Security Council, it can pester us but cannot put us off our goals”.

He accused the United States of pursuing a campaign of “creeping regime change” in Iran. READ MORE

He warned Washington that the Islamic Republic had “plans” to deal with military threats, adding that the U.S. was bogged down in Iraq and at the same time had to live with the existence of a Hamas-led Palestinian Authority.

Larijani said that 90 percent of Western propaganda against Iran was part of its “psychological warfare” to put pressure on it.
