Protesting workers of the Anzali Shipyards are in prison

One hundred employed workers from Tide Water and Kaveh companies at the Anzali shipping were fired and several of them who dared to protest in front of the governor's office of the province of Gilan were arrested and sent to prison.

According to the labor reporter from the regime-run news agency, ILNA, 700 workers of the 2 companies are employed however 200 among these are expected to be laid off in June.


According to the workers themselves, those who participated in the May 1st International Workers Day march in Tehran are either being dismissed or are being refused pay raises and benefits for specialist type jobs by the management of the companies. The protesting workers announced: "Some of the laid off workers who gathered to protest were trying to get the attention of the authorities of the province, in order to have the labor conditions investigated but they were arrested and now they are in prison."
