A report on the condition of several political prisoners

One of the young student activists, Kayvan Rafii, whose was first arrested in the July 9th anniversary demonstrations of 2003, has spent 4 months of his sentence in solitary. He was arrested along with his fellow activist, Behrooz Javid-Tehrani (mentioned in above item) at Javid-Tehranis' house and are now both being held at Rejaiishahr prison.

The Organization of the Defense of Human Rights in Kurdistan, based in Sanandadj, also report that Kurdish Journalist and political prisoner, Ejlaal Qavami is also on hunger strike. According to received reports from Monday, Aug. 29th, Qavami who was arrested last month in the Sanandadj (Kurdistan) uprisings, was indicted on charges of "acting against the security of the Islamic Republic, persuading people to protest and organizing resistance movements."

This was Qavami's first court session and thus far there is no information on the outcome. As protest to his conditions he has now been on hunger strike since Wednesday, Aug. 24th and has commented that he will continue his strike until he is unconditionally released.
