University student suspended for drawing a cartoon of Ahmadinejad

The regime-run news agency ISNA reported that a university student at the Payam'eh Noor University in the city of Neishabur (province of Khorasan) has been suspended from university for one scholastic term for drawing a caricature of Ahmadinejad. READ MORE

During Ahmadinejad's trip to the province of Khorasan several weeks ago, the student, who is studying management and is in charge of the university student journal, published the cartoon as a part of an advertising circular for the journal and pasted copies all around the various announcement boards on the university campus. After installing 10 copies around the university, he was suspended and so was his journal.

A number of students, members of organizations and publications of the PAYAM'EH NOOR university protested the this verdict issuing a statement that read: "Subsequent to recent events in the University of Payam'eh Noor of Neishabur that has lead to legal and judicial problems for one of the university students, we announce our protest against interference of organizations outside the university in our academic realm at the University and we demand that such matters be left for the disciplinary and supervisory committees of the University itself which have been set up for the sole purpose of investigating such matters."
