Authorities at Tehran international airport had reportedly been alerted by a letter from the head of Iran's wrestling federation saying 15 young men had managed to obtain Hungarian visas by posing as members of the wrestling team.

The police then arrested seven men who confessed to having paid a large sum to obtain the visas by pretending to be on the team, which was to participate in a competition held in Hungary in April.

A state-owned newspaper said one of the men had posed as a 120kg would-be fighter even though he did not weigh more that 60kg.

Officials estimate some 100,000 young Iranians leave the country every year, preferably for western countries.
