Addressing several thousand high school students who are members of Islamic association of high school students, the Supreme Leader said that if the Constitutional Movement had not been destroyed (in 1953), the nation would have gone far in the direction of development and progress, but, the hegemonic powers restored their domination (over Iran) and stopped the nation from treading the path of independence and freedom under Islam.

"They kept the nation several decades away from social progress and development after they managed to destroy the popular movement against the puppet regime in 1953," the Supreme Leader said.

The US-engineered military coup helped reinstate Pahlavi regime in 1953 after the deposed Shad had escaped the country under pressure from popular movements against the regime.

The Supreme Leader said that the nation and leadership have exercised vigilance after victory of the Islamic Revolution to safeguard the achievements of the Islamic Revolution in light of the experience of the Constitutional Movement.

"The nation stood up against conspiracy of the enemies and exercised vigilance to safeguard independence and freedom," the Supreme Leader said.

The Supreme Leader said that in the past 26 years, the United States has always stood in the way of progress and development of the Iranian nation.

"Despite the current progress, there is a long way to go to make good on the backwardness of the past. The young generation relying on God Almighty should work relentlessly to achieve development and progress."

The Supreme Leader called on the high school students who will become eligible to vote for the first time on June 17 presidential election to actively take part in the election.
