Opposing Statements of Iranian Jews on Meeting Ahmadinejad

Iranian Jewish Public Affairs Committee, IJPAC: In response to queries by members of the media and community groups, the Iranian-American Jewish Federation confirms that it has knowledge of an unofficial approach made by the Iranian Representative Office to the UN to a private member of the community in NY with respect to the possibility of arranging a meeting with President Ahmadinejad during his upcoming visit to the UN General Assembly. Please be advised that it is the policy of IJPAC not to meet or negotiate with terrorists, murderers and hostage-takers who have the blood of the Iranian, Jewish and American people on their hands.

The media has in the past widely reported on the irresponsible political misdaventures of one entity that apparently does enjoy to flirt and negotiate with the Iranian regime. The record of that entity became clear years ago in media accounts and it no longer enjoys nor deserves the respect of the Iranian Jewish community, the American Jewish community or the people of Iran or any other sensible government.

It is the policy of IJPAC to support the people of Iran's struggle for freedom, democracy and equality. This sentiment is shared by the overwhelming majority of the Iranian Jewry.

For Immediate Release

In response to queries by members of the media and community groups, the Iranian-American Jewish Federation confirms that it has knowledge of an unofficial approach made by the Iranian Representative Office to the UN to a private member of the community in NY with respect to the possibility of arranging a meeting with President Ahmadinejad during his upcoming visit to the UN General Assembly.

However, to date, no official approaches have been made and no invitations were received by the IAJF. Should that occur, the IAJF will take it under advisement and will issue the appropriate response.

At this point, the circumstances with respect to Iran's record on human rights, political prisoners, executions of scores of teenagers, violence in various regions of the country, the IRI's nuclear policy and its support for terrorist groups, the unclear faith of hundreds of missing people including 11 Jews, and the serious allegations against President Ahmadinejad make the likelihood of any such meeting very remote.
