Germany Warns Iran Not to Miscalculate

Dow Jones Newswires:
Germany urged Iran Monday to consider carefully European Union proposals designed to make sure Tehran doesn't produce nuclear weapons and to avoid "miscalculations" of its interests.

Iranian officials have publicly rejected the proposals from Germany, the U.K. and France - known as the E3 - but German Foreign Ministry spokesman Jens Ploetner said Tehran had yet to reply formally.

"We hope Iran will now examine the comprehensive proposal from the E3 very carefully and very seriously," Ploetner told reporters.

"We are absolutely convinced that the E3 proposal is a good basis for further talks on the way to an agreement which fully meets the legitimate interests of both sides," Ploetner said. "We hope that Iran doesn't make any miscalculations here."
