Mullah Hassan further said both these movements would end in the separation of religion from society, warning that they regard religion as an individual issue. "Although they appear to be loggerheads, secularism and a superstitious religion give rise to the same result," he said, noting that currently some either look at religion from an intellectual or from a superstitious viewpoint. He likened religion to a train with a strong locomotive, referring to it as the interpretation of religion which resulted in the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Asked about the promotion of infamous mullah Khomeini's thoughts and duties of the media, mullah Hassan said, "My grandfather is not among us and does not need our compliment, but I believe that our society and future generations need the Imam."On the freedom of expression and press, and responsibilities of officials in implementing it, he said freedom is a valuable concept and not against the principles of religion. Referring to the big achievement of former President Mohammad Khatami as increasing officials' tolerance, Seyyed Hassan noted that such an accomplishment is the outcome of press activities.
