Moving Towards West Fatal for Islamic Iran, Says Ahmadinejad

Moving towards the West would be fatal for Islamic Iran, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted on Wednesday by the Fars news agency as saying. “The power and independence of the Islamic Republic of Iran is based on Islamic principles and moving towards the West would be deviating and fatal for the Iranian nation,” Ahmadinejad said. Speaking at a religious ceremony on Tuesday night in the Narmak mosque in Teheran, Ahmadinejad added that the global status of Iran is based on taking the initiative in international matters and showing resistance against imperialism.

The remarks by Ahmadinejad were in connection with Iran’s controversial nuclear programme and indicating his fierce opposition to any concessions to the West over pursuing atomic technology on the verge of next month’s board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
