Iran Press News: Translation by Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi
Hamidreza Assefi, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the regime reacting to Monday's European Union statement that cited among other matters, Ahmadinejad's recent irresponsible comments about Israel, claimed: "This statement is inappropriate for the shift that the world and the Islamic Republic are going through at the moment; we are amazed at the depth of the European Unions' ignorance toward the flow of the world. The Europeans need to first and foremost start by criticizing themselves; in order to eliminate human rights violations and racism toward minorities and Moslems in particular, they are obligated to take radical steps and that needs to be reflected in their statements." The other issue raised in the statement regarding the regime supporting terrorism, as well as Tony Blair’s comments on Monday, Assefi said: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is a victim of terrorism itself and we are ourselves one of the pioneers in fighting this cursed advent."

Finally on the matter of the regime's nuclear activities, Assefi said: "The Islamic Regime refuses to forgo it's rights in this matter and the Europeans must remain bound to their past commitments and not stray too far by demanding things that we categorically refuse to do; the E.U. must recognize our legitimacy in this matter, if we are to arrive at some kind of an understanding."
