Bus Strike in Tehran

Breaking News.ie:
Some of Tehran’s bus drivers stopped work today in protest at low payment and the alleged arrest of colleagues, forcing tens of thousands of daily travellers to walk or hitch rides in private cars. The strike also brought traffic in central Tehran to a halt with many commuters wandering in the streets in search of taxis to go to work.

The limited strike followed the alleged arrest of 10 bus drivers for encouraging colleagues to strike to protest low wages, said driver Davoud Razavi. We want our colleagues to be released,” he said.

But many of Tehran’s bus drivers did not join the strike and took commuters to their destination. Unions in Iran are not strong due to workers’ fear of government retribution or losing their job.
