Hamas wins Iran's "Full Support"

Adnkronos International:
Iran has pledged its "full financial and political support" for the Hamas dominated Palestinian Authority, according to Hamas' political leader, Khaled Mashal who is visiting the country. The Hamas leader made the remarks after talks on Wednesday, with the secretary general of Iran's Supreme Council for National Security, Ali Larijani. The meeting is the latest between Mashal and top Iranian leaders since he arrived in the country on Monday.

"The decision of the United States and certain European states to freeze their aid to Palestine, has in a certain sense eased our struggle for statehood," said Mashal, adding that "support for Hamas and the new Palestinian government means contributing to chasing the Americans out of the Middle East."

"As soon as the new [Palestinian Authority] government is formed, it will review all the treaties signed by its predecessors, and will honour only those which do not contrast with the interests of the Palestinian people," he said. READ MORE

Israel's decision late last week to halt monthly tax money transfers to the Palestinian Authority in protest against Hamas, coupled with the suspension of US aid to the territories, has prompted the radical Islamist movement to seek financial support from Arab and Muslim countries, including Iran.
