Tehran-Moscow nuclear talks cancelled: source

Tehran Times:
The second round of nuclear talks between Iran and Russia concerning a joint uranium enrichment project has been canceled, an informed source told the Mehr News Agency on Sunday.

Iran and Russia were scheduled to sit for a second round of negotiations on February 16 in Moscow regarding Moscow's proposal to enrich Iran's uranium on Russian soil. READ MORE

In the first round of talks, held in early January, Tehran insisted on its legal right to enrichment on Iranian soil.

After an official visit to Moscow on January 25, Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani told reporters that the Russian proposal lacks potential to meet Iran's demands but could be a complementary project.

Larijani noted that the plan would be implemented temporarily but further agreements need to be made on Iran's future nuclear program.

On February 4 the 35-nation Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) passed a western-sponsored resolution to report Iran's nuclear case to the UN Security Council. Moscow voted in favor of the resolution.
