Iran Stocks Provisions Amid Possible UN Embargo

Iran, facing possible embargos by the United Nations, is reportedly planning to buy rice from Thailand and Vietnam.

Chookiat Ophaswongse, president of the Rice Exporters Association of Thailand, reports officials from the Iranian government have come to Thailand to negotiate with exporters in the country.


Chookiat said Iran plans to buy 300,000 metric tones of rice, and the Tehran administration may be accelerating the rice importing process to prevent a possible famine stemming from economic sanctions. READ MORE

Chookiat said Iranian officials will travel to Vietnam to negotiate with the exporters there following their Thailand visit.

In addition to Vietnam, Iran is reportedly planning to buy rice from Pakistan.
