Velayati: Our Friends are Governing Iraq & Afghanistan

Iranian Labor News Agency - Ali Akbar Velayati, former Iran’s Foreign Minister for about 16 years, and current advisor in International Affairs to the Supreme Leader Ayattolah Khameni, said at this time our friends are in charge of government in Iraq and Afghanistan. He added that the disintegaration of Iraq is not in interest of Iran. Velayati went on to say that right now disintegaration of Iraq is not merely possible, but also it is not possible to have a unified Iraq in near future without any conflict. He noted that the unification of Iraq is in interest of the United States, but if their supports for the Iraqi Kurds increase, they will have problems with Turkey. READ MORE

On February 06, 06 The Iranian Student News Agency -Iran's Interior Minister Security Deputy, Brigadier General Zolghadr also said that "Americans tried to establish a dependent regime in Iraq and increase their pressure on Iran, but their policies in Iraq were failed and today, Iran's friends in Iraq seized the power."

Analyst Comment: The Islamic Republic News Agency - It is interesting to know that on April 4, 06- the Iranian state run daily newspaper Kayhan International” noted that the occupiers do not want to see a stable and democratic Iraq, and for this reason had "tampered with the results of the December 15 elections to try to reduce the seats of the United Iraqi Alliance, and are now putting hurdles in the way of formation of an independent government."
