Iran gas consumption hits highest level ever

Iranian Oil Minister Kazem Vaziri-Hamaneh said that Iran’s daily consumption of natural gas has reached its highest level ever, MNA reported.

Expounding on the latest developments in the oil and gas industries, Vaziri-Hamaneh told the Majlis Energy Committee that gas consumption has reached 150 mln cubic meters per day.


The total daily consumption of gas is shocking and alarming, as it has doubled since the previous year (March 2005-March 2006), MP Javad Saadunzadeh of the parliamentary energy committee stated. READ MORE

One of the reasons for the increase in gas consumption is the rise in the energy demand on power stations that use natural gas, he added.

The national program to encourage the use of cars fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG) and the increase in consumption due to national projects to connect houses to gas lines are some of the other reasons for the phenomenon.
