Iranian, German Foreign Mins Meet In Berlin

The foreign ministers of Iran and Germany met Wednesday for talks expected to focus on European and U.S. efforts to ensure Tehran's nuclear program isn't used to make weapons. As part of the visit, Germany's Joschka Fischer and Kamal Kharrazi also opened Iran 's new embassy in Berlin together. ...

Fischer said an accord on the nuclear issue would open the prospect of stronger ties between Iran and the European Union.

"An agreement on this key point clears the way for deepened cooperation in the scientific-technical field, but also in the political field," he said at the new embassy about 10 kilometers from downtown Berlin.

Kharrazi said Iran had showed a readiness for "compromise and cooperation," and asked for Europe's support. The two diplomats then went to a hotel for formal talks. ...
