Open Letter to World Leaders - A Blogosphere Exclusive

An Iranian opposition group inside of Iran, calling themselves the 70 million people of Iran released an open letter to a number of world leaders. This letter is an addition to the letter they sent to the government of the Islamic Republic in Iran. Below is the text of that letter.

They have passed this letter to the US based Iranian oppostion group: Iran of Tomorrow Movement (IOTM) for distribution.

March 30, 2005

To:

Honourable George Bush, President; Honourable Tony Blair, Prime Minister; Honourable Gerhard Schreuder, German Chancellor; Honourable Paul Martin, Prime Minister; Honourable Jacques Chirac, Président; Honourable Silvio Berlusconi, Presidente del Consiglio; Honourable Junichiro Koizumi, Prime Minister; Honourable Vladimir Putin, President; Honourable José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission;

We the 70 million people of Iran request you to stand by our side as we vanquish our common enemy, the totalitarian regime of the Islamic Republic in Iran. In this confrontation, we must unite as one to an evil that has humiliated our spirit, demolished our freedom and continues to threaten the security of free nations.

We the 70 million people of Iran request your declaration to denounce the Islamic Republic as the legitimate government of Iran on the 10th of June. On this historic day, we the Iranian people will place our seal on a promise of this general uprising which will go down in history as a confrontation between good and evil. READ MORE

On the 10th of June, the people of the world shall rally to our cause, in solidarity with Iranians everywhere. We have given the mullahs until the 16th of June to submit to the will of the Iranian people and peacefully surrender the power to its rightful owners. We the 70 million Iranians hereby cast our vote to end the Islamic Republic’s reign of terror, and no longer consider the Islamic Republic a legitimate government.

Should they be so unwise not to leave peacefully on June 16th, we are prepared to remove this dictatorship and bring to an end the 26 years of their shameful reign. We will strike on the 18th of June, from every corner of our land, in every city, at every outpost of the Islamic Republic, and will bring those who have wronged us to justice.

Rest secure in the knowledge that this is inevitable, and that when we have chosen a true representative government, we shall join the international community in friendship and harmony. We shall never forget those nations which persevered with us in this struggle.

For 26 years the Islamic Republic has sown discord across the world and the Middle-East, threatening international peace and stability. The Islamic dictatorship is the single greatest state sponsor of international terrorism, and is developing nuclear weapons with the worst of intentions. Some believe in compromising with this regime which has little regard for human rights and is perhaps the single greatest threat facing the world today. Some wrongfully believe in using external force to coerce change in Iran. Both paths lead to war. The nations of Europe still have the appeasement of Hitler on their consciences, and must not add to this burden with more monumental errors of judgment. Invasion or attacks on the regime will only turn the people of Iran against those they consider their friends and greatest allies in the fight against the Islamic Republic.

True peace and stability in the Middle-East can only be established with the flourishing of democracy and the victory of our people over Islamic fundamentalists.

We, the people of the world, will join together to become a single voice of democracy. We will defeat our common enemy and fulfill our dreams, together, as one.

We, the 70 million Iranians.

(This letter along with The 70 Million Iranian People’s Declaration has been submitted by the opposition inside Iran to Iran of Tomorrow Movement (IOTM) for distribution to the world leaders and media.
