Iran Sued For The 1983 Terrorist Bombing of the U.S. Marine Barracks in Beirut

BUSINESS WIRE:
Richard D. Heideman, Senior Counsel of the Washington, DC law firm, Heideman Nudelman & Kalik, P.C., has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia against The Islamic Republic of Iran and The Iranian Ministry of Information and Security on behalf of 29 United States servicemen who were killed or injured, and their families as a result of the 1983 terrorist bombing at the U.S. Marine Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. The Complaint alleges that the terrorist group Hezbollah carried out the construction of a gas-enhanced explosive that exploded with a force equal to 15,000 to 21,000 pounds of explosives, mounted it to a large truck, then crashed the truck through the iron fence gate and into the center lobby of the headquarters building of the 24th Amphibious Unit, intending to murder and maim the United States Marines who were in Beirut for a peace-keeping mission. The collapse of the four-story reinforced concrete structure resulted in the deaths of approximately 241 members of the Armed Forces of the United States and the injuries of numerous others.

Plaintiffs allege that the Iranian Ministry of Information and Security, an agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards provided the economic, technological and other support to Hezbollah to carry out this attack, in violation of federal counter terrorism statutes, and for their acts of unlawful international terrorism resulting in the murder and injury of the United States servicemen in Beirut, Lebanon.

Heideman stated, "The filing of this Complaint will not only remind the world of the long standing and continuing terrorist activities of the government of Iran but is designed to hold them accountable for the murder and maiming of United States Marines stationed in Beirut on a peace keeping mission. We seek justice for these Marines and their families."

Steven R. Perles of the Perles Law Firm, P.C. and Thomas Fortune Fay of the Law Office of Thomas Fortune Fay are of counsel on the Complaint.
