Russian FM: Russia supports sanctions on Iran

The Jerusalem Post:
Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said Wednesday that his country supports placing sanctions on Iran for its refusal to comply with the UN Security Council's demand that it halt uranium enrichment.

Lavrov told reporters that implementing sanctions would rule out the possibility of military action against Iran.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel told parliament Wednesday that Iran's response to an internationally-backed incentives package proposal was unacceptable, and that the international community would not stand by while Iran flaunted UN demands.
