"They want Ganji to be forgotten"

Iran Press News: Translation by Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi.
Massoumeh Shafii, wife of journalist and political prisoner, Akbar Ganji has written an open letter relating her husbands latest condition; she describes the 171-day long detention that Ganji has had to endure in the horrific solitary ward of Evin Prison and the illegal, inhumane and highly restricted existence an individual could possibly endure. His last furlough from prison was 9 months ago and his most recent visit with his family was 2 weeks ago.

The lack of sufficient food and the complete elimination of fruits and vegetables from his diet have begun to take its toll. Shafii stresses that restrictions on his meals and medical care has aggravated his back and leg pain as well as his thoracic and pulmonary problems. She said: "They've just abandoned him in ward 2A so that they can forget him and also wipe him off of the public's mind. I hope day will come where I am not forced to bring pen to paper to impart the stories of my nearest and dearests oppression and grievances so that I can find someone to hear me..."
