Reformists Write to the Leader

Morteza Sadeghi, Rooz Online:
Rooz Online has learned that a number of reformist groups in Iran have sent a confidential letter to ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic regime, alerting him of the consequences of imprudent measures and policies by some policy makers regarding Iran’s nuclear issue. This letter has been signed by most of the leaders of the 2nd Khordad movement (a grouping that was formed to support former president Khatami in his bid for the presidency in 1997). In the letter, the writers strongly criticize the remarks that Iran’s hardline president Mahmud Ahmadinejad made recently about wiping off Israel from the map of the world and the questioning of the validity of the Holocaust, and request him to prevent such remarks by defining the high level policies of the regime on these issues. The authors also criticize the differing and conflicting policies pronounced by senior Iranian officials on the international front and state that ultimately it is he who is responsible for the fate of the country’s nuclear issues. They call on him to prevent the country from falling into more serious crisis on this issue.
