Russia Enters Final Stage of Bushehr Nuclear Project in Iran

Iranian delegation arrived in Moscow on Tuesday, Aug. 22, for four days of talks as Russia plans to reach a final agreement to launch Iran’s first nuclear reactor at Bushehr.

Iranian officials previously said that the talks would focus on a timetable to operate the first unit of the 1,000 kilowatt $1-billion light water facility.

The Iranian delegation will be hosted by Russia’s state-owned company Atomstroyexport, which is responsible for building all of Russia’s nuclear power plants abroad. Atomstroyexport plans to discuss its contract to build Bushehr’s Unit #1.

As part of negotiations process the Iranian delegation will visit and tour the Kalinin nuclear power plant in Tver region in Central Russia.


The Bushehr plant was scheduled for completion by the end of the year but Iran and Atomstroyexport said in July that the launching had been pushed back to the second half of 2007. READ MORE
