Khamenei Calls for Unity Among Muslims to Save Jerusalem

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called Friday for encouraging unity among Islamic countries throughout the world. Addressing some state officials, who came to express to him Eid Al-Fitr greetings, he said that the Islamic nation was "going through a revival." In an indirect allusion to the Israeli occupation of the Islamic holy places in the holy city of Jerusalem, he said that the occupiers of Jerusalem and their international protectors thought it was easy to forget the Palestinian issue. "However, the Palestinian national resistance showed that the Palestinians were faithful to the issue of Jerusalem," Khamenei said.

He added that his country's stand with regard to the Palestinian issue was clear.

"It consists in allowing the Palestinians to take part in a free referendum paving the way for creating an independent Palestine which would bring to trial war criminals such as Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and others like him," Khamenei said.

He expressed gratitude to the Iranian demonstrators, "who marched in the streets to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity with Jerusalem.
